things I love | farmer's market

Of the many things I love about Summer, I'm really enjoying the abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables lately.  I love that I can go downtown on Saturday morning to Farmer's Market and get produce that puts the grocery store to shame.  I love that we eat more vegetables this time of year.  I love that my parents' garden will soon be full of zucchini and cucumbers and tomatoes, and my girls will learn the joy of picking their own food.  Actually, the problem with Laci is getting her to wait until the food is ripe before picking, but  well, at least she gets the picking part.

I love that I can take a perfectly good-for-you zucchini, saute it in some butter and garlic, cover it in Parmesan cheese, and call that my dinner.  I'm fairly certain I have counteracted the healthiness with the butter and cheese, and also cooked most of the nutrients out, but hey, it's still green, and that still counts as a vegetable.

I'm also loving onions lately.  I spent the first 25 years of my life hating onions.  Then I started to cook more and cooking something almost always calls for an onion.  And while I'm still not a fan of the raw onion, I rarely make a meal without onion in it.  And why did it take me 32 years to realize how amazing a caramelized onion is?  I spent the last 32 years of my life missing out on one of life's simple pleasures:  a burger piled high with caramelized onions.  And just because of that, I felt the need to photograph the caramelizing process.  Except, I stopped taking pictures before the onions were done, when I douse them with balsamic vinegar and pile them up on whatever it is I'm eating at the moment.  I think I was too eager to eat them.

Tell me, what are you loving right now?
