~ My mom and Laci - July 2010 ~
My mom has spent most of her life being proud of my sisters and me. Now that I have my own girls, I know how even the smallest achievements can make you swell with pride. How, even if they are learning and doing things on their own, that maybe some part of their success is because of something I did right. And that feels great.
What also feels great is returning that pride. Today, I am very proud of my mom (okay, not just today). She is the kind of person who continually doubts her abilities, underestimates her potential, and turns introvert when it comes to sharing her ideas. But, the truth is, she is very talented and creative, and yesterday, she opened her first Etsy store.
She has been making aprons for a couple of years now (has been sewing for many, many more), and finally worked up the nerve to set up a real online shop and just put herself out there. Up until now, she has given away most of her aprons to family and friends because her generosity often exceeds her business sense. She is such a genuinely caring person who deserves to be recognized for her talents, and I truly hope this endeavor brings her happiness and growth. She isn't looking to become rich on selling aprons, but I think it is awesome to find an outlet like this and make a little money to continue her passion.
She is probably dying of embarrassment reading these words. She turns a lovely shade of red when she gets embarrassed, it is impossible to hide. So, do me a favor and pay her a little visit. She did a great job of introducing her new shop on her blog, so maybe you can start there and show her some love. Yes, leave a comment...when it comes to making new friends, she is the best. And then maybe buy yourself an apron, or one for your mom, or for your sister, or grandma, or daughter, or teacher, or friend. She has a huge stash of fabric, including some really cute vintage prints, and I'm headed her way today to encourage some new creations. So, check back often to see what she has added to her shop. Because aprons are awesome and I think everyone needs one.
And if you can't find the links buried above, here they are again:
Your Momma loves you.
ReplyDeleteI'm so touched by your lovely words.
That's all- before I get all mushy.

Don't you love making sappy mom posts? Me too. :) Suppose it's time to link up as well since I am seriously lagging. -beth
