the weekend that was

These pictures are from last weekend at my aunt's house in Campbell.  We had a quick, very fun trip, and I'm already counting down the days until we see each other again.  Our family dynamics are a little complicated, with children spaced sporadically across the age spectrum, and explaining all of that deserves its own post (my mom wrote a pretty awesome one here that explains some of it).  I took very few pictures.  I always have the goal of taking a picture of everyone that was there, but I didn't even get close.  However, I talked a lot, had a lot of fun, heck, I even sewed some curtains while I was there.  Suffice it to say, we had a very full three days.  And if you want to see another really cute picture of my Mia, because who wouldn't want that, go here.

Sometimes I wonder if everyone thinks their family is crazy. If everyone thinks their family is the best ever. If everyone thinks their family is the loudest group of people ever to gather together. Or is it just a few people who get this honor?

If you are part of my family, and I'm referring to my whole extended family here, it is likely that many of the following apply to you:

You will mock swimming suit models at 10:30 at night.  Does anyone seriously pose in a lunge while at the beach?  I think not.

You will not allow anyone to finish a story without at least three interruptions.

You will completely zone out in the middle of another person's story and swear that, "I'm still listening!"

You will assume that if a baby is crying, then it must be hungry.  And you will feed it.

You will consider moving from the living room to the backyard as "doing something."

You will decide at 7:00 pm that you need to make a trip to Walgreen's for hand cream because your knuckles are red and cracking.  You will discuss said Walgreen's outing for two hours, but at 9:15, decide that you are too tired to go anywhere.  You will use lanolin ointment on your knuckles, which will not help heal your cracked skin, but will lead to a discussion about rubbing your hands in the armpit of a sheep.

You will have no shame sharing stories of underwear shopping gone bad or what just happened in the bathroom.

You will smell the scent of freshly baked cookies wafting through the neighborhood and then proceed to speak loudly (yell, maybe) in the front yard about how much you like cookies and how nice it would be if someone brought a plate to your door. Sadly, no one will respond to your pleas.

You will go to the grocery store for just a few things and leave with an overflowing cart.

You will lay in bed in the morning, awake but quiet, because you don't want to be the first to make noise, even though at least half the other people in the house are doing the same thing.

You will wake up and think it is 8:22, and after finishing your coffee, realize that it is now only 7:22 and you've already been up for an hour.

You will talk about going home for hours, and when the time comes when you can no longer put off leaving, you will suddenly jump up, announce your departure, and head straight for the door. This is the only way to get yourself moving. Unfortunately, you will realize your forgot your purse, diaper bag, and dog and you will need to make several trips back into the house, including a potty break, before actually leaving the driveway.

You will laugh a lot. Maybe enough enough to pee a little.

PS:  Can you spot Laci's new favorite boots?
