mia | six months

~ love, love, love those sparkly blues ~

Dear Miss Mia,

Today you are six months old.  SIX MONTHS OLD!!!  Wow.

Just for fun, I looked back to your big sister's six month post to see what she was up to when she was your age.  It turns out, you two are very much alike.  Like big sister, you also don't like going to sleep, you are slobbery and toothless, and you want to put everything in your mouth.  Unlike big sister, you have fuzzy light brown hair and your eyes are still unquestionably blue.

You've grown tired of the jumperoo, but love to sit in the booster chair and watch the goings-on in the kitchen.  You can only sit up on your own for a few seconds before you roll helplessly onto your face or your back.  You are a champion roller from tummy to back, but haven't succeeded in going from back to tummy yet.  You can spin around in a full circle on your tummy, but (thankfully) haven't started crawling, though I'm pretty sure you wish you could so you could reach your toys a little easier.  Mommy is perfectly OKAY with all of this.  It means you are still immobile, and therefore much easier to keep an eye on.

You have recently discovered your temper, or maybe it was there all along and you've only recently begun to express it.  I would go so far as to say this temper of yours had a role in saving your life.  Countless toys have already frustrated you to the point of no return - you close your eyes, arch your back, scream, and cry with real tears.  Thankfully, you are easily distracted by other toys, or your sister, or the animals, and are then able to calm down again.

You are squishy and kissable and adorable and we all love you tons.  I speak for your daddy and myself when I say we are so thankful for your health, and for the fact that we have reached the six month milestone with a happy, healthy, beautiful little girl.  As for your big sister, she is still on the fence about you.  One moment she cries because you are touching her leg, but in the next moment she will make sure you have your blanket, pacifier, and toys.  I am hopeful she will fall in love with you once she realizes how awesome you are, but you might have to do something amazing first, like learning to walk, or at least sitting up on your own.

And as I'm trying to write all my love to you, you have awoken from your nap after only 30 minutes of sleeping.  I can assure you that 30 minutes is not a long enough nap, but since you have rolled over and are smiling at the birds on grammy's pillows, I am doubtful you will return to sleep without a fuss.

Happy six month birthday little one!

xoxo,
Your Mama

  1. So sweet. We'l have to talk about big sisters with tempers soon . . . that is, if you can hear me above the screaming.

    1. Lol! The screaming! Sometimes I catch myself talking really loud (even louder than normal) only to realize I've completely ignored my screaming kids and I'm just talking over them. Good times!
