the here and now

Laci and I are watching An American Tale on VHS while Mia jumps around in the Jumperoo. I should be getting ready to go to work, but I'm feeling like this is a day to be spent with my girls. I'm not behind, and the work will still be ready for me next week.

My mom has a vast collection of children's movies on VHS. In the last two weeks, we have watched nearly all of them at least twice. This is the first time watching "the mice." Laci is oblivious to the lack of HD quality and widescreen formatting, and is starting to understand the concept of rewinding. I enjoy the walk down memory lane and am frightened by how many songs I can still (terribly) sing along with.

Mia is now voicing her opinion about the Jumperoo, which has quickly changed from joyful bouncing toy to prison of springs. Don't worry, she has been rescued by my mom (we are at her house, have been all week), while I continue to document the here and now on my phone.

I've been wanting to write about the here and now of our everyday life for a while. Since January 1st really, but my free time has been scarce. Years from now, it will be easy to recall how busy, stressed, and tired we are. It will be less easy to remember the little moments of "normal" life that wedge their way in between decisions about counter tops and worries about budgets. The girls are growing and changing so much each day. I am afraid of skimming over the milestones, the important small things, as I'm distracted by bigger things.

I am taking lots of pictures this year, well at least so far.  I have taken daily pictures of my girls that I'm not willing to commit into an actual 365 project yet (really 366 this year), but my thoughts are headed in that direction. It has been a worthwhile endeavor so far. They help me remember what we've been up to in the last couple of weeks and have forced me into camera practice. Let's take a peek at what we've been up to, shall we?

The Jumperoo came out of storage and both girls take turns. Laci is lucky she's just a petite little thing or this would never work.

Ryan and I took Laci to Barnes & Noble to spend her gift certificate from Christmas. I tried to steer her to beloved children's classics, like If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and Corduroy. She bee-lined it straight to this My Little Pony book, hugged it tight to her chest, and would not trade it for any other. I picked a couple Olivia stories (because I think she's adorable) and we headed to the checkout with Laci leading the way, her treasured book tucked securely under her chin. When did she get so big?

*****

It is now Friday evening, Mia is napping in my arms, Laci is in the barn with my mom. I figure I will take a minute to try and wrap this up while all is relatively quiet.

What started as a nursing break earlier this morning turned into getting everyone dressed for the day and finding something to eat, which turned into running errands, which turned into a trip to Costco, which turned into where has the whole day gone and now it is getting dark?

I can easily see why I have so much trouble blogging regularly. I am entirely too long-winded and my interruptions tend to last hours, even days. At the moment, I hear a certain two year old crying at the back door, so I am off again. And that, my friends, is the here and now of my life.

Pictures have been added.
It is now Saturday night.
The End.

    1. Thank you. I took more pictures today, but haven't posted any yet. We'll see if anything ever comes of it, someday when I have time to sit down and go through them.
