lunati (again)

This is what Lunati looked like when she arrived at the vet on Wednesday evening.  In my opinion, she looked much, much worse in real life than this picture shows.

Here she is hanging out in her cage.  Apparently, she was quite the escape artist, ready to bolt as soon as the door was opened.  That is, once she was feeling a little better (post-morphine dose and Fentanyl pain patch).

And here she is the next morning, looking much better already.

Please disregard the broken ear (aka aural hematoma), it is the least of our problems at this point.  If you recall, Bailee has done this to both of her ears and undergone costly surgery to fix them.  In the country, sometimes, it becomes survival of the fittest, and a floppy ear isn't exactly life threatening.

By Thursday evening, just 24 hours after being bit, our girl was almost back to normal.

And Sunday night, she looked like this.

As good as new.

Obviously, we are very glad this story has a happy ending (even if it was a bit expensive).  Since it happened late in the evening, we took her to a different vet than our regular vet, one that offers after hour/emergency care.  They were really nice to us and took great care of our girl.  They posted an album and some information about rattlesnake bites on Facebook, so she is now a poster dog (literally) for what happens when you stick your nose into the wrong place.

And one last picture, pre-snake bite and pre-floppy ear.  At almost ten years old, she's been through quite a bit.  Now, we have one more story to add to her book.

  2. What a strong doggie! We went through this with our old chocolate lab years ago, and it's amazing what they can do. I am glad you got good care at the vet. I just had to take our dog there recently, too instead of our regular vet :) Scary, but I am glad everything turned out for the better.

  3. Aw, poor doggie! She still manages to look happy with her face all puffy, though. Good ol' dogs; you can't get them down.
