snapshots of our life

My big girl and I went to the store this morning.  Just her and me.  It was fun.  She chatted the entire time, naming characters she recognized (Nemo!), "Ooooh"-ing at the Oreo display with blinking lights, and asking for Cheetos. She insists on wearing her pink princess sunglasses in the car.  They have pink lenses, so I'm not sure about their light blocking ability, but they certainly look cute.

I've been thinking a lot about all the pictures I take, and the random moments in life they capture.  Like this one, where she was completely distraught over wearing brown overalls.

I changed her clothes right after this picture.  Twenty minutes of crying and trying to remove her clothes was enough to convince me that brown overalls are not her thing.

And this picture.  I'm not sure if you can see the unhappy face, but there she is on the barn porch, having a complete meltdown.

I'm not always eager to take the kids outside, something always seems to turn a simple outing into a major commotion.  This day was no different.  The weather was sunny and warm (sometime last week I think), and I couldn't deny that we all needed some fresh air.  The first twenty minutes were spent trying to snap Laci out of a tantrum because Mia was in the stroller and she was not.  There was a brief period where everyone was happy, five or ten minutes at best.  This was followed by Mia getting upset in the stroller, me removing her, me being a stubborn mother and not letting Laci ride in the stroller, me putting the stroller away in the garage, and Laci crying, whining, screaming, and literally melting her little body onto the ground.  Less than an hour after we first stepped out the door, I declared outside time was OVER and we were all going back in the house to eat lunch and hopefully nap.  I can't remember if the nap was successful, but I suppose that is irrelevant at this point.

Anyway, these pictures I take are all precious to me.  Like this one where Laci is peeling a banana on my mother's kitchen counter.  She loves to sit on the counter and watch us cooking, and she loves to pick and peel anything, though she never did eat that banana.  And the one where Mia was sitting in the brown chair watching us in the kitchen, but fell over when I wasn't paying attention and I glanced over and saw this.

Speaking of little Mia, I won't be leaving her alone in the brown chair anymore because she has decided to do things like this.

And this.

Sister wants to be mobile in a terrible way.  Today, she managed to spin, squirm, flip and flop her way to the  kid-size chair and pull it down on her head.  I miss my squishy, sleepy newborn.

The best of the pictures capture moments like this, where everyone appears happy to be with one another, even if it was just for a moment.

I don't really have anything profound to say on this picture-taking subject today.  I guess I just needed an excuse to unload random pictures and record the littleness of my girls while it lasts.

And one last thing, my first ever picture of a rainbow - taken through a window because it was raining and Mia was screaming.  Sister is learning that mama is a crazy picture taker and even crying will not interrupt a good shot now and then.

Come back tomorrow for another Pinterest project brought to life.  I'd show you today, but it is a gift for my sister (Happy Birthday Kristina!) and I haven't given it to her yet.

  1. 1. I, too, would ooooh and aaahh over an electric Oreo display.

    2. I, too, would throw a fit if forced to wear brown overalls. (They're not as cute on moms.)

    3. We have the argument over who is going to ride in the stroller all the time. Now I put Ike in the stroller in his carseat and balance Lily on the handlebars like it's a bike. It's super safe, you know.

    1. Haha! I LOVE #3!
I should have just let her ride in the stroller, but we were supposed to be outside so she could run off some energy and riding in a stroller isn't exactly exercise. Oh well, live and learn.
