a day in the kitchen

As expected, this week is turning out to be quite pleasant. Perhaps, it's just my state of mind, because nothing really amazing has happened. But whatever the reason, I'll take it.

Monday was rainy and dark outside, so we kept busy in the kitchen. Mom made chocolate cake and chicken pot pies (from scratch) while I wrangled babies and pretended I'm some kind of food photographer. Although much less mobile than my children, food is difficult to photograph.

You know what else is difficult to photograph? Me. Myself. I. I'm still plugging away at it, but I can't say I'm exactly enjoying it. I'll share more later, but I think it requires a post of its own. Back to the kitchen.

I made the frosting because I like to jump in and help at the 11th hour like that. And I like to eat frosting. And since chocolate doesn't seem to agree with Mia's tummy, I had to distract myself from the giant, moist, amazingly awesome chocolate cake.

These new bowls demanded a try at chicken pot pies, which were really good, although my picture makes it look not so impressive. It was the perfect comfort food for a dark, rainy evening.

Even the little ones seemed to enjoy the day, despite the fact that Laci repeatedly asked to go outside. She entertained herself with the cats and dog, who were also seeking shelter from the weather. And Mia did what babies do...eat, sleep, poop, repeat.

I can't think of a better way to spend a rainy day, except maybe under a warm blanket with a good book. And since I don't have much to call a kitchen at this exact point in time, spending a day in my mom's kitchen was the best place for me. At this time next year, I'll be in my own kitchen on a rainy day, baking goodies and making dinner for my family, and I hope my mom is there too. I'm sure she won't mind a mess in my kitchen for a change.
