the fourth

I took very few pictures of our holiday.  Mostly because I'm currently drowning in pictures. You may remember I'm trying to do a picture-a-day project of my girls. Which really means two pictures a day. And since I'm incapable of clicking the camera only twice, it usually ends up being at least eight pictures a day, many more on those special days where things look just right. All this adds up to waaaay too many pictures. When I get a few minutes here and there, I work on deleting the blurries, the duplicates, the what-was-I-even-trying-to-take-a-picture-of's. I'm already a couple few some months behind with that and I am only halfway through the year. Should I just throw in the towel? I want to, sort of, but not yet. So for now, my plan is fewer pictures, if possible. I'm trying to wait for the times when I really feel like taking a picture, because always having a camera nearby gets to be a burden, and I already feel like I'm in a rut and just keep taking the same picture day after day. I don't even know how many sleeping pictures I have because of the days where I forget to take a picture until the girls are already in bed.

Sooooo, anyway (as Laci said to me this morning), that was an unnecessarily long explanation as to why I have so few pictures from the fourth.  Without further ado, a few pictures from our fourth.

Please ignore the fact that absolutely nothing in the picture of Laci and the sunflower is in focus.

We BBQ'd at Myles and Kristina's house. Followed by homemade ice cream at my parents'. And yes, we require three ice cream makers.

We watched the fireworks from my parents' backyard, so now Laci thinks fireworks are tiny little explosions of light on the horizon (they are really far from the yard).  I heard not a single "Wow!" from my girl. This is a girl who says "WOW!" when I tell her pretty much anything. For example,

Me: This crayon matches your dress.
Laci: Wow!

Or,

Me: Look at this lizard on the wall.
Laci: WOW!

Or,

Me:  Grammy is coming to the store with us.
Laci: Oh, WOOOOWWW!!!

Just pretend you can hear the sincere amazement in her tone. As for the firework display, she was not impressed, although she did keep asking about them on the way home. At least for the entire two minutes she managed to stay awake. Her exhaustion may have also had something to do with her blasé attitude. I imagine when she sees fireworks up close someday that her head will explode.

Mia was worn out long before the eating and gathering were over. This makes sleeping child picture # 27,408.

We have extended family in town until tomorrow when I imagine we will return to our quiet daily life. But also, it's Summer, which means our quiet daily life is supposed to be disrupted with visiting out of town family, late evening BBQ's, and substituting swimming for a bath at least once a week. So, hopefully, it doesn't get too quiet and boring.
