{flashback} end of July 2011

With skies like this, I suppose it's safe to say that Fall has arrived. Despite the warm daytime temperatures, the evenings do feel cooler, the sun sets earlier, and the calendar says October is near. So, yes, Fall is here, for at least the next three months. This past weekend, I celebrated the changing season with a sweatshirt and pot roast, and while I'm fully looking forward to nicer weather, I'm feeling just a little cheated out of a Summer that feels like it ended months ago.

In an effort to recapture time lost, I'm revisiting (my) Summer's end today.

July 27th...the middle of Summer...blazing hot...

The trusses for our house were being unloaded as Laci and I watched from the shade. I tried to take her picture but she wouldn't sit still. She wanted to see the camera's display screen, but didn't understand you have to take the picture first, before you can look at it. This is the last picture I took that day.

We had so much Summer left to enjoy. Mia was safe inside me, our house was progressing daily, and Laci and I had a date with the pool planned for the weekend. We didn't make it to the pool.

Life can change very quickly. Even from one picture to the next.

But let's go back to July.

Mom and I made peach jam. Well, mom made jam, but I'm pretty sure I helped at least cut the peaches.

Laci picked green tomatoes from the vine. The tomatoes have since ripened and have been made into 30 quarts of tomato sauce (mom was at it again).

Laci played with the cats and dog, demonstrating her love for animals that I don't see fading anytime soon, or ever.

Trusses were delivered. Big ones.

Flash forward to now and we have this. Still a lot of work to do, but progress nonetheless.

After looking through these pictures, I'm feeling better already. And I suppose I'll have plenty of Summer again in, oh, nine months or so. I'll once again complain about the heat and wish for rain. It's just the natural course of things. And if I'm in need of another flashback, this time revisiting the Fall, I'm sure I'll have plenty of pictures to choose from.
