healthy mia

Our little Mia is doing so well. She weighed 9 lbs 8 oz at her doctor appointment yesterday, only a half pound less than her big sister at that age. Her pediatrician, who happens to have also been my pediatrician, is more than pleased with her progress and assured me she is a healthy little girl. Before Mia was born, I had been looking forward to being the more relaxed mother of a second child, free from the worries of a first time parent. So far, it isn't working out as planned. I find myself worrying about Mia's health quite frequently...wondering if her organs are okay, if she is oxygenating well, if she is in pain. Her pediatrician is great at putting my mind at ease, and by her next appointment in a month, I'm sure I'll have a whole new crop of worries to share with him.

Sometimes it is hard to believe that she really is okay after all that she has been through. Her scars are already fading, all the sutures have dissolved, and her lung has years to continue developing. I'm sure my concerns about her health will subside as time passes and as she continues to heal. But I'm also sure that her health will always be in the back of my mind no matter how old she is or how healthy she appears to be.

Tomorrow she will be 8 weeks old. She's a great sleeper, gifting me a four hour stretch last night, and she wakes up so happy, just full of smiles and happy baby sounds. Eight weeks ago, I never would have imagined this is where she would be. Have I mentioned a time or two, or a hundred, how thankful I am for her amazing recovery? Because I am, so very, very thankful.
