Magic

I want to thank the very kind person who gave us this blankie. We LOVE it.
I can't remember who gave it to us, but you are a wonderful human being. For the past few weeks we've been struggling with bedtime. I end up with a baby who wants to suck something but hates, and I mean HATES, a pacifier and can't quite seem to get ahold of her thumb. We also have serious carseat issues. I mean like screaming mad carseat issues. I was not blessed with a baby that sleeps in the car. No, I have been blessed with a baby with a powerful set of lungs that she likes to exercise for the duration of every trip. Needless to say, our car trips have been kept to a minimum. On Tuesday, I decided to meet my mom for lunch in Chico. I cannot tell you what possessed me to think that we could handle a 40 minute car ride when just going down the road was enough to make you go crazy. I'm blaming it on extreme cabin fever and I really didn't care if she screamed for 40 minutes straight...we had to get out of the house. Since it was a little chilly I grabbed a blanket from the top of the pile and covered her up in her carseat, not really thinking that it would help anything other than keep her from getting cold. Well, let me tell you: This blanket is MAGIC. She only cried to the end of the driveway and we had a very peaceful and quiet trip all the way to Chico. At first, I thought it was a fluke, but I have tested it a few times since then, and while it isn't 100% effective, it has helped tremendously. This is very good news, mostly for my sanity, but also for you out of town family - I may actually attempt a long distance trip in the near future. I am telling Ryan about this magic blanket last night, just as Miss Laci is attempting to suck my arm off and just beginning to get really mad, and I decide to test its magic powers outside of the car. I wrapped her up in it so she could touch it with her hands and rub her face on it. She loved it and calmed right down. I would have never guessed that a little baby would have such an opinion about her blanket, but then I remembered that she is my daughter and we tend to have opinions, strong opinions, about everything. As I speak, she is taking a nap on this magic blanket, another big feat since she doesn't really nap anywhere except in someone's arms. Now, I know that this "magic" fix probably won't work forever, but you moms out there can understand that my sanity was on the line and I'm thankful for anything that works, even once. Ryan was also so kind to point out that I have to BELIEVE in the magic for it to keep working. I believe, I believe, I believe.
My opinionated girl and her daddy.
Yes, SHE decided this is where she wanted to sleep.
