my little helper

I'm not sure what part of me thought this would be a good idea.

I needed to get some work done on the computer and, as usual, Laci was whining and crying and hanging off my legs.  She just can't stand it when I'm at the computer, which is why I usually wait until she's asleep.  The other day, I couldn't wait until bedtime, so, in order to actually get something done, I set her up on top of the desk, front and center with the action on the screen.  Obviously, it worked.  She was thrilled to sit in the middle of the desk, empty and re-empty the pen holder, and sift through every sheet of paper within her reach.

This was a good idea in the sense that I accomplished what I needed to without Laci completely melting down.  However, it was probably my worst idea ever because now she expects to sit on the desk every time I sit down at the computer.  It used to be enough to sit on my lap, but now she requires access to everything in order to be content.  I'll admit, I knew it wasn't a good idea when I did it the first time, but sometimes you just do what you have to do to get stuff done.  Then, after she had completely destroyed the top of my desk, I couldn't resist how cute and happy she was.  I mean, I find this face irresistible.

Now, after cleaning up the pens and reorganizing my bills for the millionth time, I'm declaring my desk a no baby zone, wishing wholeheartedly that I had an office where I could close the door behind me.  But, since it is November, the month of thankfulness, I will say this has been a good motivator in getting me to "unplug" myself for a good portion of the day.  And for that, I am thankful.

  1. This is what I did with Lily one day in desperation when I was trying to sew. Now she always wants to climb up there and reorganize all my bobbins.
